As we face increasingly complex societal and environmental issues, Mariposa Action’s mission is to build bridges as well as take direct action to fight inequality. We seek to better understand ourselves as well as others, to find common ground that transcends parties and politics.
Our Core Values:
Peaceful Action – We believe it is imperative to back up talking, listening, and understanding with peaceful, empathetic and compassionate action and nonviolent resistance.
Empathy – We approach interactions with others consciously and with intention to understand ideas, beliefs and spirituality different than our own.
Integrity – We commit to honesty in our communication, purpose and action, in accordance with the standards for conduct guided by the collective values of this group.
Respect – We believe that self-respect and respect for others begins with self-reflection and commit to doing the internal work required to create the external change we want to see.
Equity – We recognize that the systems in our society promote particular advantages and disadvantages based on the dominant culture, and believe that we all must play a part in dismantling them.
Education – We believe facts are the most effective tools to implement action based decisions. We commit to supporting a variety of ways of ensuring that education is available to everyone.
Respect for Environment – We recognize that when the health of our planet and its species are compromised, it has a direct impact on the ability of people to thrive. We commit to promoting the wellbeing and diversity of life on earth.
Connection – We pursue and nurture connections with our friends and family as well as the greater community. We recognize our limitations as individuals and our collective potential as we build on our shared values. We look for opportunities to further the work of other efforts in our community working towards positive change.
Collective Leadership -- We believe that there is no one leader that can fully address all of the complex issues that we face. Each individual brings skills and talents to drive this movement forward.
